It is an honor and a privilege to name Anthony Peña as our 2022 National Supermarket Association member of the year.
Anthony Peña perfectly illustrates what it is to be an exceptional national Supermarket Association Member. He also represents what the National Supermarket Association is today and what the National Supermarket Association will be tomorrow. He is the future and a trailblazer for the industry and the NSA......which happens to be very glistening bright.
Anthony Peña encapsulates the American dream and the dream of every immigrant parent who lands on these shores, hoping for a better life for their children. Anthony was born in La Vega in the Dominican Republic on March 31st, 1986, The son of Antonio and Maria Peña and brother to Adrian and sister Melissa. The family planted roots in Port Chester, New York, where he attended Port Chester High School and later continued his education at the University of Connecticut. His first taste of the retail food business was working in a bodega in Portchester, where the “dream began.”
Anthony first learned about the NSA in the mid-2000s and was eager to learn more about the organization. He then took the initiative and joined as a member in 2015. He was one of the youngest members to join the organization representing the wave of the second generation joining the NSA. Anthony’s impact was sudden, being elected to the board of directors in 2017. Anthony did not just sit back as a board member but initiated new and fresh ideas to contribute positively to the National Supermarket Association members.
As he worked hard to positively impact the National Supermarket Association, he also worked hard to continue helping his family’s business. Today Anthony is one of the few members with stores in multiple states, such as Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island. He works under the banners of Key Food, Super Fresh, and Save-A lot. Anthony holds the position of Vice-president and heads new Business development for his family.
Anthony is recognized as member of the year for his fearless passion and the contributions he makes to the NSA. His efforts are seen in his leadership and involvement in numerous committees, such as the business committee, the gala committee, the NSA CARES committee, and the scholarship, to name a few. He is the chairperson of the enormously successful NSA Trade show committee.
Anthony gives credit for his success and sense of service to his parents and the family that instilled in him hard work and passion for work. For those reasons and many others, it is an honor to Name Anthony Pena as the 2022 National Supermarket Association Member of the year.
